| Dear
Friends of the Cloud Forest School,
It is difficult to address such a wide audience,
coming to visit our website from around the world! Perhaps you are
here because you are interested in a teaching position, and you
would like to know more about our community. One might visit as
an educator, looking for an international connection for their school
or study abroad opportunities. Others could be interested in volunteer
and intern opportunities – and you would like to find out
how to apply. You might also be here because you wish to support
the school, through our plant-a-tree program, in buying a poster,
or with a tax-deductible donation through our 501(c)3 organization
in Sewanee, TN. Or, likely, you might be a friend of the school,
having worked here, visited, or know students and you would like
to know what we are up to (or learn more about our history). Well,
whoever you are, you have come to the right place, welcome!
At our very heart, we are an elementary and high
school set in the beautiful cloud forest region in Monteverde, Costa
Rica, whose charge is simple and clear: Our mission is to nurture
generations of ecologically aware, academically well-rounded bilingual
individuals. We will work to provide students with the knowledge,
values and skills needed to make environmentally and socially conscious
decisions on a local, national and global scale. At the same time,
we have grown dramatically since our humble beginning in the early
1990’s, and with 205 local students we are also a conservation
organization, an area of active reforestation, an international
learning center for new and aspiring teachers with a self-sustaining
volunteer and intern program…the list goes on. As our school
continues to grow and change as our needs and interests dictate
– we consistently return to the notion that we are here to
serve as many of the local children as possible, providing a quality
bilingual education.
My hope is that, as we continue to update and
tweak our website, you can find what you need here. If not, please
feel free to contact me at director@cloudforestschool.org with any
questions. Again, thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy a
little view into our home.
Warm Regards,
Scott Timm
